Philosophie und Antisemitismus

Einleitung in den Zeitschriftenschwerpunkt

Abstract

Seit den unterschiedlichsten Stellungnahmen von Philosophen und Philosophinnen zu dem antisemitischen Massaker der Hamas vom 7.Oktober 2023 und den nachfolgenden militärischen Kriegshandlungen in Gaza und im Libanon ist die Debatte über das Verhältnis der Philosophie zum Antisemitismus erneut aufgerollt worden. Gerade die Frage nach dem Verhältnis der Disziplin zu den verschiedenen Verständnissen und Definitionsversuchen von Antisemitismus, Antijudaismus und Antizionismus auf der einen und zum Judentum und dem Jüdisch-Sein auf der anderen Seite ist seitdem verstärkt ins Zentrum akademischer und öffentlicher Kontroversen gerückt. Zugleich kann eine bis in die Gegenwart reichende Vernachlässigung einer kritisch-reflexiven Thematisierung des Verhältnisses von Philosophie und Antisemitismus in den philosophischen Diskursen und Forschungen aufgezeigt werden. Während Themen und Fragestellungen aus postkolonialen und antirassistischen Kontexten in den vergangenen Jahren zunehmend auch aus philosophischem Blickwinkel auf- und bearbeitet worden sind, findet eine philosophische Auseinandersetzung mit Antisemitismus auch im deutschsprachigen Raum bisher nur peripher statt. Dieses Forschungsdesiderat betrifft ebenso die historischen und gegenwärtigen Verstrickungen der eigenen Disziplin in die antijüdische Ausgrenzungs- und Gewaltgeschichte. Der Zeitschriftenschwerpunkt stellt einen Versuch dar, diese disziplinären Lücken aufzuarbeiten und neue theoretische Perspektiven der Analyse und Kritik von Antisemitismus zu eröffnen.

Since philosophers have offered a wide range of perspectives on the antisemitic massacre carried out by Hamas on October 7, 2023, and the subsequent military hostilities in Gaza and Lebanon, the debate over the relationship between philosophy and antisemitism has been reignited. In particular, the question of the discipline’s relationship to the various understandings and attempts to define antisemitism, anti-Judaism, and anti-Zionism on the one hand, and to Judaism and Jewishness on the other, has since moved more firmly into the center of academic and public controversies. At the same time, it can be demonstrated that there has been a neglect, extending to the present day, of a critical and reflective examination of the relationship between philosophy and antisemitism in philosophical discourse and research. While topics and questions from postcolonial and anti-racist contexts have increasingly been addressed and examined from a philosophical perspective in recent years, a philosophical engagement with antisemitism has so far taken place only peripherally. This also applies to the historical and contemporary entanglements of the discipline itself in the history of anti-Jewish exclusion and violence. This special issue represents an attempt to address these disciplinary gaps and to open up new theoretical perspectives for the analysis and critique of antisemitism.
